Leigh C. McGill, MD

Pediatric Surgeon

Dr. McGill is a native of Phoenix and has been in practice here for over 31 years the longest of any pediatric surgeon in Arizona. He was past Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Arizona, and an Instructor of Surgery for the Mayo Clinic Arizona. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Dr. McGill feels one his most notable accomplishments was to help educate over 250 residents in general surgery from Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency (Banner Good Samaritan), Mayo Clinic-Arizona Surgical Residency, Maricopa County Hospital Residency, and St. Joseph’s Hospital Residency programs.

Dr. McGill lead a team of multiple surgeons that successfully separated Ischiopagus Tripus Conjoined Twins and was the founding surgeon involved in the development of the Phoenix ECMO program (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, a long term cardiopulmonary bypass for babies).

Dr. McGill (Leigh) is a ‘team leader’ for Habitat for Humanity and has helped to complete more than 9 houses. He is active with the Metropolitan Phoenix YMCA Board and especially with The Camping Services Branch.

He and his wife are members of Paradise Valley United Methodist Church and with their help, have completed 13 medical missions to Piura, Peru. Over 329 children have been helped with surgical care they otherwise couldn’t afford and 7 patients have been brought to Phoenix for surgery. In 2012, they took 50 youth to Piura working through the Santisimo Sacramento Parish (www.santisimo.org).

The McGill’s also enjoy spending time at their Colorado ranch where they raise buffalo with the help of family.

In October 2014, Dr. McGill retired from active practice in Phoenix. He is still available for followup with prior patients through phone or email via Carolyn or Alex at our office at (602) 254-5561.
